In an effort to boost its broadband Internet subscriber base, TT&T has teamed up with SVOA and Intel Microelectronics (Thailand) to offer a solution for the education sector, and aims to have 500,000 subscribers by year-end.
This month the company launches its "Maxnet Edutainment Tour", aimed at schools and universities in the North, Northeastern and Western regions. This will introduce the SVOA Eco netbook and SVOA notebook, both powered by Intel processors, each of which comes bundled with 2MB Maxnet broadband Internet access.
As part of the roadshow there will be seminar and technology training for universities and schools, as well as special price promotions.
According to Bhudej Chantrangkurn, head of TT&T's marketing department, once the company introduced its 2MB broadband service at a price of 590 baht in June, numbers of subscribers have increased by around 30 per cent with the total number now approximately 300,000 users.
TT&T, which has the ToT concession to provide phone and Internet services in provincial areas, has now expanded its Internet services into Bangkok. With factors such as the expansion of network infrastructure and the increasing use of notebook computers, the number of broadband Internet users would reach five million within three years, Bhudej said.
Surachai Jiraathikul, TT&T general manager of ISP business said that the core TT&T network has been already implemented in central areas of Bangkok, where the company currently has some 50,000 subscribers.
By Q1 next year, the company expects this to grow to around 100,000 subscribers. He wouldn't disclose the increased investment in infrastructure, just saying that the company couldn't run to the huge investments made by other major player like True.
