REPORTER'S MURDER

Police to make arrest soon

Police are expected to make an arrest soon over the murder of a Matichon newspaper reporter in Suphan Buri last weekend, according to provincial governor Somsak Phusrisak.

Journalist Jaruek Rangcharoen, 46, was investigating corruption in local administration organisations. He was shot several times in the head while buying food on his way home in Don Chedi district on Saturday.

The governor said yesterday police had a physical description of the suspect and were working on leads in their search for the murderer. He believed there would be an arrest soon.

The governor said Jaruek's investigations may have made him enemies. Security volunteers were on duty during his funeral rites at Wat Don Chedi temple.

Regional and provincial journalists met Mr Somsak yesterday to ask about progress in the police investigation.

Another Matichon reporter, Athiwat Chaiyanurat, was murdered in his home in Nakhon Si Thammarat on Aug 1.
