KHON KAEN : The owner of the hotel at the centre of the Four-Mod video clip scandal has announced he is putting his property up for sale. He has also threatened to sue a senior policeman for defamation.
Thiti Poolnitiporn, owner of Khon Kaen Ruenrom hotel, said daily occupancy has slumped to less than 10% from an average of 90% since the scandal broke.
The hotel has suffered financially and its image has been severely tarnished.
Mr Thiti said there was no point running the hotel at a loss, because customers have lost trust.
Singing duo Sakolrat Wora-urai, nicknamed Four, and Chutimon Chairat, known as Mod, were secretly filmed naked in a bathroom at the Ruenrom hotel in July last year. The singers were on a concert tour.
The clip was later distributed through the internet.
Mr Thiti said he was concerned about the prospect of being sued by RS Promotions, the singers' employer, which claimed the hotel failed to accept responsibility.
Three men, including the hotel security guard, turned themselves in to be questioned over the scandal but they were later released without charge.
Mr Thiti said the hotel has done all it can to rectify the problem and has cooperated fully with the police.
"What's happened has been downright tough on us," he said, adding he is prepared to offload the hotel to the right buyer.
Mr Thiti said he was looking at filing a lawsuit against Wisut Wanichbutr, former head of the Children, Juveniles and Women Division overseeing the video clip case, for defamation.
