James Grunwell took his first ever win in the Formula V6 Asia Championship at Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur recently and now leads the championship outright.
Representing Thailand, the Bangkok-based Grunwell took pole position on the Saturday and went on to win the sprint race by almost half a lap.
On the Sunday he finished third in the feature race after a tough battle for the lead which ended on the last lap with Grunwell running onto the grass as he tried to overtake leader Armaan Ebrahim. Grunwell did well to recover and come back on the track to finish third.
Grunwell was very positive about his performance.
''It's been a great weekend for me and for everyone supporting the Pizza Company Team Meritus. The weekend started with a few technical problems but we showed our strength as a team to overcome these problems and put the car on pole,'' he said.
''I am really looking forward to the next race in Sentul as it has always been good to me in the past.''
Grunwell has taken over the lead with 47 points but second placed man Ebrahim is just one point behind with Earl Bamber in third at 43 points.
The next round will take place in Indonesia at the Sentul circuit later this month.
