BEEN THERE, DONE THAT

X2 KUI BURI

52 Moo 13, Ao Noi sub-district, Muang district, Prachuap Khiri Khan 77210 Tel: 032-601-412 and 032-603-347; fax: 032-603-719; web site: http://www.x2resorts.com

Boutique resort X2 (which stands for "Cross To") comprises 23 villas of varying sizes, from a one-bedroomed, 70m2 unit to a spacious, two-bedroomed villas covering 255m2.

Part of a hotel chain established by Anthony and Kaewjai McDonald, it occupies a lush, 12-rai plot about a four-hour drive south of Bangkok (just before one reaches the Kilometre 311 marker on Highway No. 4).

Designed by Duangrit Bunnag, the resort has an appealingly simple, natural look, the walls of its rectangular villas made from rocks of varying shapes and sizes. Paths of plain, unsealed concrete and wooden walkways connect the villas and common areas.

Each unit has a balcony and garden and most have their own private pool. The interiors are bright and cosy, with furniture painted in warm colours and daylight streaming in through several transparent panels in the roof.

The resort can provide transportation between Hua Hin and downtown Bangkok or Suvarnabhumi Airport.
