Reading and vocabulary building for EFL and ESL learners based on newspaper
Building your vocabulary

This site has numerous units that will help you build your vocabulary very quickly. Here is how you can find them and how they will help you:

Learning vocabulary from context
A daily English newspaper is ideal for building your vocabulary. This is especially true of news stories because the format of the news gives you three chances to understand. This allows you to guess the meanings of many unfamiliar words just by reading the story. Here are the units on this site that will show you how:

Learning vocabulary directly
A second reason the newspaper is an ideal medium for building vocabulary is in its content. You see the same topics every day and within these types there is almost always a set of key words that occur again and again. We give you a quick start at learning the key words for topics such as storms, the environment, and disputes in the section entitled common newspaper stories.

We are also continually adding new material to our programme entitled Improving Your English with the Bangkok Post. You can use those lessons to give you additional vocabulary practice by reading articles. Here are recent lessons listed by topic where you can find additional vocabulary practice. For an overview of what to expect, click here.

If you want to learn vocabulary at a more relaxed pace, why not become a regular reader of our word of the day section? Here you will also get a good idea of what it takes to truly understand both a word's meaning and its usage.
