Post Publishing Plc. has long been active in the educational community. The Bangkok Post Student Weekly has served schools and universities throughout Thailand for more than 25 years, providing a variety of news and feature stories in easy English designed especially for students. The company has regularly organised country-wide seminars for teachers using the Bangkok Post Student Weekly and it has provided a host of free supplementary materials, including teaching manuals and regular teacher's notes. In 1992, the company established an Educational Services Department designed to provide similar services based on the Bangkok Post for teachers, students and other interested readers. From 1993 until early 1997, the department faxed materials to schools and general readers in the Bangkok area based on the same day’s issue of the Bangkok Post. Then, through an innovative programme entitled Improving Your English with the Bangkok Post, which appears in the classified sections of the Bangkok Post, readers all over the country can get help with reading and understanding the newspaper. Our weekly columns allows users to keep up-to-date with news, business and feature stories and to improve their English at the same time. The department also offers materials of a more permanent nature. These include books, teaching manuals and kits for teachers, tests, smaller publications on various aspects of the newspaper, and now this active on-line programme using the Internet. In addition, the department has a very active one- and two-day seminar schedule conducted for university and secondary teachers. One of the main aims of the department is to acquaint teachers with the latest developments in the teaching of reading, helping them move away from the test-based methodologies so common in Thailand.
