naa sataw
Because sataw is native to the south, if youre travelling in the southern provinces at this time of the year, you wont miss the sight of huge bundles of glossy dark green pods of sataw around market places or transportation terminals. Smaller bundles are on offer at tourist spots as souvenirs from the region. Sataw is also used as an alias for politicians from the south. This week lets talk about sataw and sataw dishes.
Along with bamboo shoots, the rainy season is bringing us another indigenous vegetable sataw (Parkia speciosa Hassk). Like durian, this veggie is the kind that you really love or hate. Its stinky smell is the reason and explains why some people call it stink bean. The pungent smell announces itself from the moment its chewed to a couple of visits to the restroom after the meal.
