Because he was worried about the situation in the South, at first Mr Thaksin Shinawatra was reluctant to leave the country for the Apec summit in Chile which took place on November 20 and 21. However, he changed his mind and was delighted that he did. This Post Today excerpt has the details.

สำหรับปัญหาสถานการณ์ภาคใต้ของไทย นายกรัฐมนตรี กล่าวว่า ไม่มีผู้นำคนใดหยิบยกขึ้น
มาพูดในการหารือกัน ทุกคนมั่นใจว่ารัฐบาลดูแลได้ไม่มีปัญหา มีแต่การพูดจากันภายในเอง
เช่น ผู้นำเกาหลีชอบมากกับแนวคิดนกสันติภาพ และว่า ได้คุยกับประธานาธิบดีอินโดนีเซีย และ
นายกรัฐมนตรีมาเลเซียว่า จะมีการประชุมกันเป็นการภายในในเรื่องนี้
