Last week we looked at Mr Thaksin Shinawatra’s happy reaction when he learned that Italy would present him with the International Forgiveness Award. Not everyone was so positive, however. Bangkok Senator Kraisak Choonhavan, chairman of the committee on foreign affairs, cited the more than 3,000 extrajudicial killings of innocent people in Mr Thaksin’s War on Drug and the use of violence to tackle the unrest in the South as contraryto the intention of the award.
