Thai scholar wins place at Eton

Denver educator wins first award showcasing effort despite low salaries

Parit (Tim) Wacharasindhu won one of the United Kingdom's (UK) most prestigious academic awards - The King's Scholarship to Eton College.

Parit (Tim) Wacharasindhu, a 13-year-old student at Shrewsbury International School in Bangkok, has won one of the United Kingdom's (UK) most prestigious academic awards - The King's Scholarship to Eton College. Tim Wacharasindhu is the first student educated in Thailand to win a King's Scholarship to Eton College and will be joining the other scholars at Eton in September. The entrance examinations are exceptionally demanding, testing the students' ability to think beyond the confines of learning undertaken at school, right across a range of subjects. Eton College, founded in 1440 by Henry VI, is the UK's most famous school. Recent alumni include their Royal Highnesses Prince William and Prince Harry. Competition for ordinary places is fierce and the fourteen King's Scholarships are amongst the most sought after academic accolades in the UK. Winning the prestigious scholarship will entitle Tim to use the letters "KS" after his name. The Learning Post wishes Tim the best of luck in his studies in Berkshire.
