Eddie:	phǒm chôp ākàt tōnní  yēn sàbāi dī	ผมชอบอากาศตอนนี้ เย็นสบายดี	I like the weather at the moment.  It’s pleasant and cool!
Ajarn:	nân nà sì  dūean ní pēn dūean sìpsǒng láeo  pēn dūean hàeng kān lōi kràthōng ngāi	นั่นน่ะสิ เดือนนี้เป็นเดือน สิบสองแล้ว เป็นเดือน แห่งการลอยกระทงไง	Yeah, this is the twelfth month – it’s the Loy Krathong month.
Eddie:	châi  chīng sì ná  tàe nám thûam sōi khâo bân phǒm ìk láeo	ใช่ จริงสินะ แต่น้ำท่วม ซอยเข้าบ้านผมอีกแล้ว	Yeah, that’s right, but the soi to my place is flooded again.
Ajarn:	Etdi chām phlēng lōi kràthōng dâi mǎi lâ	เอ็ดดี้จำเพลงลอยกระทง ได้ไหมล่ะ	Can you remember the Loy Krathong song?
Eddie:	chām dâi  “wānphēn dūean  sìpsǒng  nám kô nōng tēm tàlìng  rāo thánglǎi chāi yǐng sànùk kān chīng wān lōi kràthōng”	จำได้ “วันเพ็ญเดือนสิบ สองน้ำก็นองเต็มตลิ่ง เรา ทั้งหลายชายหญิง สนุก กันจริง วันลอยกระทง”	Yes, “On the full moon night of the twelfth month, water overflows the banks, we all, men and women, enjoy ourselves very much on Loy Krathong Da”’.
Ajarn:	kèng nî Etdi  róng dâi phró kwà khōnthāi ìk	เก่งนี่ เอ็ดดี้ ร้องได้เพราะ กว่าคนไทยอีก	Very good, Eddie. You can sing better than (some) Thais.
Eddie:	khòpkhūn khráp  āchān chōm phǒm kōen pāi láeo	ขอบคุณครับ อาจารย์ชม ผมเกินไปแล้ว	Thanks, you’re flattering me, Ajarn.
Ajarn:	ngán phlēng bòk thōe rûeang nám thûam sōi láeo yāng lâ	งั้นเพลงบอกเธอเรื่องน้ำ ท่วมซอยแล้วยังล่ะ	So, do the words of the song help to explain why your soi is flooded?
Eddie:	sàdāeng wâ dūean ní mī nám mák pēn pràchām	แสดงว่าเดือนนี้มีน้ำมาก เป็นประจำ	Ah, that means the water is normally very high in this month.
Ajarn:	châi  láe pēn khângkhôen dûai  nám  chūeng mâk kwà pàkàtì	ใช่ และเป็นข้างขึ้นด้วย น้ำจึงมากกว่าปกติ	Yes, and (now) the moon’s waxing, so the water is higher than usual.
Eddie:	ūmm  chūeng mò thî rāo chà lōi kràthōng	อือม์ จึงเหมาะที่เราจะลอย กระทง	Umm, so it’s a good time to float krathongs.
Ajarn:	châi láeo  wānní pēn wān khôen sìp-èt khâm  dūean  sìpsǒng  ìk sì wān kô pēn wān lōi kràthōng láeo	ใช่แล้ว วันนี้เป็นวันขึ้น 11 ค่ำ เดือนสิบสอง อีกสี่ วันก็เป็นวันลอยกระทง แล้ว	That’s right. Today is the eleventh night of the waxing moon of the twelfth month ‑ only four more days to Loy Krathong day.
Eddie:	ūem  trōng kàp wānsǎo phō dī  phǒm chà nât fāen pāi lōi kràthōng	อือม์ ตรงกับวันเสาร์พอดี ผมจะนัดแฟนไปลอย กระทง	Um, that’s a Saturday. I’ll have a Loi Krathong date with my girlfriend.

Phût phāsǎ Thai The twelfth month’s full moon/ wānphēn dūean sìpsǒng The cool pleasant weather of the dry season and the surplus water help shape the beautiful tradition of loy krathong Teenagers in Ayutthaya's Bang Ban district prepare to set their krathongs afloat in floodwaters, which have almost risen to the second floor of their house. — Natthiti Ampriwan Four more days to go before we will see the joyous and beautiful festival of Loy Krathong. Many hotels and restaurants along the Chao Phraya River might have advertised special events to celebrate the festival. Bangkok Metropolitan Administration also has prepared its many parks with ponds for revelers on the coming full moon night. The festivity shows the cultural bond between the Thai people and water. Thailand is situated in a basin and many people settled along rivers. Our lives have been closely tied with waterways. Water is in surplus in the twelfth lunar month of each year, usually around early- to mid-November. This is the beginning of the dry season when the full moon is most beautiful. People consider this night, when the moon is most beautiful and the water is in surplus, as a good time to thank and pay homage to the river goddess by floating krathongs, a small boat-like ornament that is usually made of banana leaves and decorated with flowers and colorful trinkets.
