To mark 155 years of Austro-Hungarian and Thai relations, the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation presents "The Hungarian Legends" concert in the Main Hall of Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, on April 27 at 7.30pm.
Invited to perform with the RBSO are two Hungarian artists -- Vilmos Olah on violin and conductress Andrea Daru. They will render four pieces by legendary Hungarian composers.
Les Préludes by Franz Liszt was dedicated to Princess Carolyne upon its publication in 1856. The title derives from a line by French poet Alphonse de Lamartine, reflecting on life's preludes to death's hymn.
Bela Bartok's First Violin Concerto consists of two movements that reflect the traditional design of a rhapsody, with a slow movement followed by a fast one. Symphonic Minutes, meanwhile, is one of Ernő Dohnányi's most popular works in five short movements, with their own charms in terms of humour, harmonic invention and melodiousness.

Finally, Dances Of Galanta by Zoltán Kodály allows Hungarian folk elements to take centre stage. The orchestral work opens with a slow introduction moving to a clarinet cadenza and andante maestoso section, followed by four fast dance sections.
Olah is a multiple award-winning Hungarian classical violinist who has performed as a soloist on five continents. He has worked with various professors and mentors and has achieved first prize in many competitions. He's playing on a fine Italian violin (ex-Ligeti) provided by the government of Hungary.
Andrea Daru has had conducting experiences with the Franz Liszt Academy of Music Orchestra, MÁV Symphony Orchestra, Duna Symphony Orchestra, Concerto Budapest and more. As of 2022, she is a professor in dance teacher training and music history at Hungarian Dance University.
