Plans afoot for King's birthday

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin yesterday ordered all state agencies to propose activities to celebrate the sixth-cycle birthday of His Majesty King Rama X on July 28.

Speaking after a cabinet meeting, Mr Srettha said he instructed each agency to propose activities to the steering committee meeting tomorrow.

Teerapong Wongsiwawilas, permanent secretary of the PM's Office, informed the premier about the commemorative pin, crafted by skilled artisans and featuring His Majesty the King's emblem to honour his birthday.

People interested in having this collectable memorabilia can place their order at the ThailandPost office or at Thailandpostmart.com website.

He said the pins are expected to be delivered by June and that people can wear them from July 1.

Meanwhile, deputy government spokeswoman Kenika Oonjit revealed that the cabinet agreed to spend 700 million baht on His Majesty the King's birthday celebrations.

Relevant agencies have been instructed to list their expenses in detail and send them to the budget screening committee. Some of the budget will be used to support agencies, including the Foreign and Interior ministries, the Office of the PM's Permanent Secretary, the Public Relations Department, the police, and the BMA.
