MEA Advances Rama IV Road with Underground Cables

The MEA collaborates on a transformative project to install underground communication cables along Rama IV Road, enhancing urban infrastructure and safety.

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), the Telecommunications Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, the Royal Thai Police, telecommunications entrepreneurs, and network operators, is supporting the removal of communication cables along Rama IV Road from the Bangkok Station (Hua Lamphong) area to the Sam Yan Intersection, spanning 1.5 kilometres. This initiative is part of a larger project to install an underground communication cable system, with plans to continue the removal of overhead cables in the area until May 2024.

The comprehensive installation of underground communication cables along Rama IV Road will stretch from Bangkok Station to the Sukhumvit Road intersection, covering approximately 9 kilometres, and is scheduled for completion in 2024. This effort is in preparation for the "MEA underground electricity line" project, which aims to enhance the infrastructure along Rama IV Road from the Bangkok Station area to Soi Rongngan Yasup, covering 3.8 kilometres, with completion targeted for 2029.

In 2024, the MEA and its partners plan to install 29 underground communication cables totalling over 61 kilometres along major roads including Asoke Montri Road, Sri Ayutthaya Road, Rama IV Road, and Charoenkrung Road. Additionally, there will be coordinated efforts with relevant agencies to organise communication cables on electricity poles over a distance of more than 570 kilometres, aiming for an average monthly progress of 45 kilometres. By 2025, the target is to organise cables on electricity poles across a total of 800 kilometres. The MEA is committed to ensuring that the installation of communication cable conduits meets the standards and criteria for cable installation on electricity poles.

Furthermore, MEA has developed the Smart Communication Cable Management (Smart CCM) system to efficiently manage data for newly installed communication cables. This includes online permits for cable installation, recording cable data, and mapping cable routes in MEA's Geographic Information System (GIS) to effectively manage these assets.

For citizens facing issues with damaged or unsafe communication cables, or malfunctioning MEA electrical equipment, reports can be made via the NBTC hotline 1200, LINE@: @nbtc1200 (link provided), the MEA Smart Life Application available on iOS and Android, or through various social media channels including Facebook (MEA X: @mea_news) and Line (MEA Connect: @MEAthailand). MEA's official accounts are marked with a green badge. Users can also contact the MEA Call Center Online 1130 or the MEA User Information Service Center, available 24/7.
